We screw through the back strips into studs in the wall. How do you support the countertop over the dishwasher without a cabinet on either side of the dishwasher?
We used pocket holes from the insides, but you could also nail or staple it on. But now we have to attach that end panel to the wall, floor, and the sink base cabinet at the right distance away to fit a dishwasher inside.
We can’t wait to share how we boxed the fridge in too, and built wall cabinets – coming up next!
How To Install A Dishwasher Under A Quartz Countertop by homeguides.sfgate.com
If you have a quartz counter, the dishwasher cannot be screwed directly to the top; use an alternative method instead. Test-fit the dishwasher under the counter to ensure it fits, and then pull it out again. Connect the water supply lines to the dishwasher, drilling holes in the cabinet to access the valves if necessary. Double-check that there’s no current with a noncontact voltage tester. They may be installed directly on top of your kitchen cabinets, or a thinner quartz counter may be mounted on top of a piece of plywood, with a built-up edge extending down to hide the plywood’s edge.

Screw the mounting clips for the dishwasher right into this plywood. Use a silicone adhesive to attach the strip to the quartz just above the mounting clips. When in place, screw the top, open end of the clips to the interior walls of your kitchen cabinets. The dishwasher must be mounted to either the cabinets around it or to the counter’s underside to prevent it from tipping while it is in use. Finally, wire the dishwasher to the electrical box at the back of the dishwasher opening, making sure the appropriate breaker has been turned off. If this is the case, you will see the plywood when you look up into the dishwasher opening. Take care, however, not to screw deeper than 1 inch, or you run the risk of cracking the quartz. Cut a strip of hardwood, such as a one-by-two, to the length of the dishwasher opening. Adjust the feet on the dishwasher to get the mounting clips level with the strip and screw the dishwasher right into the wood. They screw to the sides of your dishwasher, just behind the door. This will hold the dishwasher in place without disturbing the quartz counter above it.

When you run your finger along the edge underneath , do pieces of chipboard fall to the floor as the press board crumbles?
Cabinetry work is a fine art and should be respected as such when making repairs. Generously mask off the face area of the dishwasher where you will be fixing the counter edge. Use the drop cloth to protect the open door area that you are working over. Take the 2 ½” strip of plastic laminate and wax the finished side or rub the soap onto it. Apply the filler into the void area using the 4” or 6” wide putty knife. Cabinet making companies are always cutting corners to save money. If so, it’s absorbing moisture and the flake-board is breaking down and coming apart.
You should be able to use this same method when you are repairing solid surface countertops also. If they won’t bend, then you may just have to work around them unless you pull the dishwasher out completely. Mask off the counter areas too, so they don’t get any gunk on them either. If it is that bad, just cut a new strip of wood and insert it into the section that you just cleaned out.
Place the strip of waxed laminate over it to seal the filler into position while it dries. Chances are good you will have to repeat the process a couple of times. Fixing this area underneath the top should never be necessary again. Slowly replacing them with something a little more hardy over time.
Granite Counter Top Support Over A Dishwasher by houzz.com
You will need to have the panels on either side because that is how the dishwasher gets secured. Fortunately most of the water ran into the basement below and my 90 year old floors weren’t ruined. It acts as a bridge between the vertical 3/4″ members and the granite rests on it at the rear. I have read that granite should only be unsupported for 10 inches. I am in the process of updating my counter tops in my kitchen. Saddly our dishwasher is at the end of the counter so the granite cant be supported on the other end because the stove is adjacent to it.
How To Mount A Dishwasher Under Granite Counter Top . | Duration 4 Minutes 24 Seconds
I have a dishwasher that has granite over it with cabinets on either side and my contractor installed a ledger. They put screws into the sides of the cabinets but the dishwasher went out of square and leaked water all over my wood floor. In my case, the dishwasher is at the end of the run with the right hand side a 1/2″ plywood end cap, not a full cabinet.
