Description

We require your confirmation of the diagram before cutting your worktop, to ensure all details are correct. By using equipment of only the highest quality, we can guarantee an accurate and perpendicular cut. Our edging strip application service takes the hassle out of worktop installation and guarantees a professional finish, leaving you with more time to sit back and enjoy your new surfaces.

We advise leaving 100mm gap between the end of the worktop and the edge of the cut-out, so that the strength and stability of the work surface is not compromised. These cuts can be done between any two points on a worktop edge.Once your tap is in situ, we recommend sealing around the base with a clear silicone sealant to prevent water ingress.

Three grooves are routed on the underside of each worktop, allowing ‘dog bone’ worktop connector bolts (supplied) to be fitted.

We recommend using a worktop sealant between the two worktops when joining to create a water-resistant seal. The price is inclusive of re-edging, so your worktop will arrive ready for installation. The price is inclusive of re-edging, for a smooth, sleek finish.

Our machinery is regularly serviced to maintain the high standards of our worktop cutting service.Worktops are supplied with two edging strips as standard, one of which will be used when this service is chosen (so there is no need to purchase an additional edging strip). Once your worktop has been delivered, we recommend sealing the exposed edge and the rim of the sink with a clear silicone sealant. A fantastic solution for an uneven wall, a tapered cut could also be used to create a striking feature in a kitchen, as part of a breakfast bar or island. This style of mitre joint is also known as a butt and scribe joint or hockey stick joint, as it features a curved cut that resembles the shape of a hockey stick. This technique provides a secure join and wastes less material compared to a traditional 45° mitre joint. These can be cut to suit the curve of a corner cabinet for a sleek, seamless finish in your kitchen. Radius corners on square edge laminate worktops are perfect for creating a softer look, or for those concerned with safety around young children. Depending on the radius corner location, the worktop edging may need to be re-applied and this can incur extra charges. Radius ends are a stylish option for any contemporary kitchen and are a fantastic way to create something unique for your home.

Sectional Quilting Without Sashing by venusdehilo.com

The purpose of dividing your top into sections for quilting is not to make the process faster (it’s not), but to make it possible to quilt a large top on a basic home sewing machine.

You can quilt all the way to the edge along the outside edges only. This turned out to be a nice amount of wiggle room for sewing the sections together. The good news is that if you do something sane and simple, like a diagonal cross-hatch, that finishing step will be much easier for you than it was for me.

You will be sewing through two layers of your pieced top (right sides facing) plus the batting and back of one section. I used my walking foot for this step, to help move all those layers evenly, rather than my 1/4″ foot. Hold the weight of the fabric with one hand behind the presser foot, and guide it through the machine. Unfold the batting from the untrimmed side and smooth it over the seam area. That’s a lot to sew down by hand, especially after all the hand-finishing on those section seams. Each additional block added to length or width adds 9″ to the top size. Each strip needs to be this long: [width of strip] x 6, plus wiggle room. You’d have to put in as much work and sew (and press!) as many seams as for a much larger quilt made with wider strips. Would it be possible to use your method to quilt it?

I wonder if a scrappy quilt makes it less noticeable than a lattice sampler.

I totally understand your desire to finish the quilt yourself!

I want custom quilting, and can’t afford to have it done with a long arm. I love how you pointed out the pitfalls and gave advice on how to avoid them ie diagonal quilting. I meandered and agree with your advice to leave plenty of room on the inside edges so as to be able to blend the final meander in well. I also agree, the sections need to be as big as you can handle in your machine, otherwise it’s too much bother. That’s 396″ inches of binding, which divided by 36″ is 11 yards. It’s not quick, and there are lots of steps, but none of the steps are difficult. I divided my 64 blocks into six sections: two 3×4 block sections on the left and right sides, and two 2×4 block sections in the center. The smaller each section, the easier it is to quilt, and the longer it will take to put the whole quilt together. The small sections (each baby quilt sized) were easy to handle, but it turned out not to be worth the extra effort created by the additional section seams. Think about other quilts you’ve worked on, and what size is manageable for you on your machine.

I knew this going in, and tried to talk myself into a diagonal cross-hatch, and did it the hard way anyway. If you start every section with a line through the diagonal center of each block, your cross-hatch will line up when you put the sections together. Use your quilting ruler and rotary cutter and trim up one side, just as if you were squaring up for binding. On the side that has not been trimmed, fold the excess backing and batting out of the way. Besides, this is a big quilt, and it took over 11 yards of binding. Based on that, you can figure out how many blocks will deliver the baby-sized top you have in mind. So you could go up a block in both length and width for a 45″ x 54″ top. Once you know how many blocks you want to make — let’s say 20 — multiple by 6.

I always cut enough for at least one extra block, so 126 or so.

You could use even smaller strips if you wanted to, but your block size will shrink down, you’ll need a lot more blocks even for a small quilt. I am doing this in three sections and as yet haven’t joined the sections. When the sections are put together and you use the 1/4 ” seam, would the lattice along that seam look obviously not as wide as the other lattice?

I wanted a method without using sashing strips, so this is perfect. I first tried this in 3 long sections about the same time you did and could not have described it better. My trimming of excess backing wasn’t as tidy as yours so my quilts are a little heavier than necessary.

It’s ceramic, so it feels rather ordinary, though a bit heavier than normal, but it keeps your beverage as hot as you like it from 130 – 145 degrees!

It was so nice to have all of my boys in the house at the same time!

I mean – we hadn’t even moved into the house a year ago!

I wasn’t quite as gracious in my disappointment as my children were. They aren’t exactly enjoying it, but they are doing well. I am glad to have some assistance in teaching writing though. If you’d like to see some of the progress pictures from my dad’s quilt, you’ll find them on instagram with the # lovebuildsahomequilt. I consider myself to be fairly low-maintenance as women go. So one day, waay back before the drywall went in, he asked me to come out to the house and help him with something.

This one will be much faster than the last one for sure!

They’d probably be nice for bags, but not worth the price for quilting. It’d be thick enough to see, but thin enough for travelling. It’s been gloomy and rainy for days, so it’s sort of hard to even think straight.

We did okay without a bench and coat hooks spring thru fall, but they became more important as the temperature dropped. I only have four more granny circles to turn into squares and join!

He was fairly certain that removing the pressure would allow them to pass with flying colors. Boys had mid-terms and girls were both testing (again) for their black belts.

We pretty much just leave it open, but it’s nice to have the option to close it. I finally finished all 168 circles and started turning them into squares and joining them. Adding in another day of being out and about is wearing out the momma, though!

A few days ago, an old friend messaged that she would like to commission me to make her a quilt!
